"A bit about me..."

I am a wife and mother of two children. I began my teaching career as a substitute teacher in the primary grade level schools in Mobile, AL. I am excited about increasing my status to become an elementary education teacher. I enjoy helping students learn to their full potential.

Accelerated Reader

The Accelerated Reader program or AR is a program that is excellent in keeping students interested in reading. The students read a book from the school or classroom library which is marked with their reading level. Afterwards, they take a test on the story they read about from reading the book. They do this on a classroom or computer lab computer that has the Accelerated Reader software. When the student has concluded the test, he or she earns AR points for their comprehension of the story.

Many students like earning the points alone, but some schools do special things to keep the students reading and earning their points. Schools gain more of their students reading interest by giving them a chance to win a prize. Classes can also win prizes such as an ice cream snack. These ideas keep them reading.
